ABCTE 2011 STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Steve Gould
Florida State Teacher of the Year

North Miami Middle School, Florida

"Mr. Gould is the most amazing teacher I have ever met. He has unending patience he understands the needs of each student he implements creative activities throughout the day and throughout the week and he never ever sends students to the office because he understands that most of their behaviors are a function of their exceptionality. I cannot think of any teacher who is more deserving of recognition than Mr. Gould. I hope you will seriously consider him. "

Dan Neddo
Idaho State Teacher of the Year

Columbia High School, Idaho

"Dan is in his first year of teaching and is developmentally light years ahead of most first year teachers. His classroom environment is a great one for learning. His students use research based learning strategies as Dan uses research based instructional strategies. He has voluntarily joined multiple initiatives with his department where he is a valued member of the team by sharing what he is doing in the classroom and sharing his insights of what works with students. The students may be the best indicator of his excellence. They love Dan's class because he is able to build strong relationships with students, maintain high expectations and deliver content in a comfortably comprehensible way. Because of his expertise and ability we will be adding Physics to our courses next year."

James Muska
Missouri State Teacher of the Year

Hazelwood North Middle School, Missouri

"Mr. Muska's enthusiasm for teaching both Gateway to Technology and middle school students is clearly evident. Mr. Muska is a consummate professional who continually goes above and beyond for our students. His willingness to serve and lead a variety of school and district committees and activities demonstrates his desire to make Hazelwood North Middle School an exceptional environment for children. Mr. Muska is an exceptional new teacher who is creative in his thinking constantly seeks new ways to improve his instruction and displays a high degree of professionalism in his work. It has been a special privilege to work with Mr. Muska and I hope that you will seriously consider this nomination for the ABCTE Teacher of the Year Award."

Michelle Gilmer
South Carolina State Teacher of the Year

Pendleton High School, South Carolina

"Michelle Gilmer is an outstanding educator and a true asset to the Pendleton High School faculty. Ms. Gilmer may be newer to the profession but if you saw her teach you would think she has been challenging minds for 15 years. She has a kind, sincere and comedic personality that enables her to make math exciting to students of all ability levels. In addition to her classroom expertise, Ms. Gilmer is dedicated to her students beyond classroom hours. There is nothing she won't do for her students. She is an outstanding role model for students and faculty alike. The ABCTE program should be proud to have produced such an outstanding educator. Please consider Michelle Gilmer for your Teacher of the Year award."

Akil Parker
Pennsylvania State Teacher of the Year

Delaware Valley Charter High School, Pennsylvania

"I am nominating Mr. Akil Parker because of his dedication to his students and the great deal of concern that he has for them. He has a rapport with the students that is unparalleled by any other teachers in the building while maintaining his position as an authority figure within his classroom. Mr. Parker is a skilled practitioner at mathematics and its instruction. And he is always willing to offer tutoring instruction to any student in the building. The ABCTE program was a suitable program for Mr. Parker to use for certification purposes and it enabled him to learn a great deal about theories of education. I would strongly recommend nominating him for ABCTE teacher of the year."

Clark Gallo
Utah State Teacher of the Year

Soldier Hollow Charter School, Utah

"Clark has done an outstanding job as a teacher at Soldier Hollow Charter School. His teaching techniques are over and above the norm. The relativity of his lessons captivates students and challenges them to reach beyond and to use the higher level thinking that every administrator hopes would happen in the classroom. He has bridged the gap between the special education students and the higher level ability students by planning many project-based lessons. Our Criteria Reference Test scores in Science have far surpassed the state scores. This is totally due to Clark's efforts and methods of teaching. I highly recommend him for any award or honor which is available to him."
