Finalists for Utah

Voting has closed for the 2010 Utah ABCTE Teacher of the Year.

Wendy Aposhian

Legacy Preparatory Academy

“Wendy has a way of making complex tasks and concepts easy for her 1st graders to understand. They had many experiences learning about rocks, including holding their own rock/gem show. Wendy has also participated with the Utah Opera for her students to write and produce their own opera. This year her students went to space. It was amazing to see the understanding the students had about space come to life in their opera. Wendy was an amazing asset to our school.

Mark Besendorfer

Willow Springs Elementary

“His past experiences as a criminal attorney have given him interesting life experiences, expertise in writing and real life stories to relate to the students in the social studies, reading, writing, math and healthy lifestyles content areas. I have observed him as bright, capable, efficient, hard working and loyal. He relates well to others, is consistently fair, and shows a great interest to those around him. Mark's love for the profession of teaching and his ability to relate and enjoy the students in his class has enabled him to truly be an effective and amazing teacher.

Celeste Simmons

Hillsdale Elementary

“Celeste Simmons has done an outstanding job at Hillsdale Elementary. As a Title 1 School with many at-risk students we are in need of caring, knowledgeable committed teachers. Celeste magnifies all of these attributes as she maintains a strong, caring learning environment where students are flourishing academically and socially. She works tirelessly to promote parent support and does not allow excuses for parents not supporting their children's homework. She builds solid relationships with both parents and staff members. She is an invaluable member of her 2nd grade team.
