Finalists for South Carolina
Voting has closed for the 2010 South Carolina ABCTE Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Julie Smallfield
Dorman High School
“The fact that she is scheduled to teach Computer Science AP during the 2010-2011 school year is evidence of my confidence in her as an instructor. I would submit that relatively few teachers are asked to teach an AP level course with only one and half years of experience. Further, Julie's commitment to teach Computer Science AP will enable us to offer this course as part of our STEM Program. Julie's rapport with students and parents is fantastic. Moreover, she has gained the respect of her colleagues in our Science Department. In a very short period of time, she has established herself as a master educator.
Deanna Cannon Watson
Pelion High School
“Deanna graduated with honors from Pelion High early in my career as the principal. She attended the College of Charleston and majored in business with plans to work in the family business. She is now a member of a three teacher collaborative group who are leaders in our school. They represent the quintessential collaborative planning team. The ABCTE alternative certification program was perfect for Deanna's educational situation, and as a result Pelion High acquired a dedicated, effective science teacher.
Jeremiah Young
Beaufort High School
“Jeremiah Young is without question one of the most balanced, caring and focused professionals I have ever had the privilege of mentoring. This is a strong statement considering the number of teachers I have worked with over the last 29 years. Jeremiah's character is above reproach. Few adults display the insight and commitment to excellence as Jeremiah. His contributions to school and community are strong testimony of his tireless commitment to excellence in service. He is that one professional for which you can depend, regardless of the circumstances.
