ABCTE Certification

ABCTE is an affordable and flexible teaching certification program designed specifically for career changers. Our certification is offered in a variety of subject areas and offers a customized study plan for each candidate.

Candidates must:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an approved college or university
• Pass a background check
• Pass the ABCTE Professional Teaching Knowledge exam
• Pass the ABCTE subject area exam (in the candidate’s chosen subject area)

Candidates study on their own time and at their own pace using a variety of resources, including practice exams, online refresher courses, and our Prepare to Teach workshops. Candidates receive a study plan and program checklist, plus additional resources and ongoing program support throughout the certification process.

In order to attract more career changers to the teaching profession, we partner with school districts to hold numerous online information sessions and live recruitment events throughout the year. These sessions provide potential candidates with information about the program and the certification process in individual states.
