Michael Beck
Michael Beck is President of Beck Evaluation & Testing Associates, Inc. (BETA), a test development and consulting organization headquartered in Pleasantville, New York. BETA is a subsidiary of Touchstone Applied Science Associates, Inc. A native of Ohio, Mike received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from John Carroll University in Cleveland and an M.A. in Psychometrics from Fordham University.
Beck has directed contract test development for assessment programs in 17 states and served as a test or technical consultant to 25 state departments of education. Mr. Beck has participated in setting the student performance standards for 17 state assessment programs. BETA has also conducted test development activities for all major test publishers, nearly 50 textbook publishers, and a wide variety of federal, military, and industrial clients.
Mr. Beck is a long-time active member of the International Reading Association, the National Council on Measurement in Education and the American Educational Research Association and has contributed many presentations and publications to those organizations. Other professional memberships include Division 5 of the American Psychological Association, Sigma Xi, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
A frequent writer and speaker on assessment development and interpretation issues, he has presented professional talks or workshops in 45 states. His published research and assessment-policy articles have appeared in nearly twenty professional journals and edited books.
