Dave Saba was appointed president of ABCTE in December 2005, after serving as acting president and vice president of development and evaluation. Dave is an experienced executive, bringing more than 20 years of management experience to this position.

Dave serves as ABCTE president at a critical time in the organization's history. His key goals as president include expanding the recognition of ABCTE programs nationally, increasing the number of candidates pursuing Passport to Teaching certification, successfully launching the Distinguished Teacher certification program and pursuing an aggressive research agenda.

As a father of a college and a high school student, Dave is committed to enhancing the quality of education throughout America. Already, he has earned recognition nationwide as a tireless advocate for finding creative solutions for teacher shortages. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Academica Bilingue de la Comunidad Public Charter School in Washington D.C.

Dave uses his inclusive, collaborative management style to inspire the organization 's growing staff and forge strategic alliances to advance ABCTE 's goals. His accomplishments include redeveloping the ABCTE candidate recruitment initiative, resulting in a 300 percent increase in enrollments over a six month time period. He was also instrumental in the development of a complete suite of candidate preparation materials, and developed an unprecedented research program that will track the effectiveness of ABCTE-certified teachers.

Prior to his work with ABCTE, Dave served as the Mid-Atlantic regional director for Kaplan Test Prep. He significantly improved the performance of the region through aggressive teacher recruitment and training, site expansion, strategic planning and marketing.

In previous management roles, Dave oversaw the dramatic expansion of a health care company and increased quality and team-building for two manufacturing companies. He has served on the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Board of Governors, a middle school curriculum committee and on a government committee responsible for purchasing and restoring historic buildings. Dave has also been successful in two start-up ventures.

Dave is a Naval Academy graduate who served as a helicopter pilot in the Navy for eight years and was awarded both the Battle E and Navy Achievement Medals. He completed his master's degree in engineering management from the University of South Florida.

Dave resides in Northern Virginia with his wife and two daughters.
