Director of Public Relations

ABCTE is searching for a talented, enthusiastic Director of Public Relations. ABCTE is one of the largest national nonprofit organizations dedicated to recruiting and certifying new teachers for America’s K-12 schools. As Director of Public Relations, you will be responsible for developing messaging that reaches professionals who want to change careers and become teachers, legislators who are considering adopting the program, and donors who support our cause.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as on-the-record spokesperson for organization, conducting radio, newspaper, and television interviews
  • Develop and manage the organization’s public relations strategy
  • Develop strong relations with key national education media to increase visibility of the ABCTE programs, including pitching (by telephone and e-mail) story ideas to reporters
  • Write and pitch opinion pieces, letters to the editor, and feature articles
  • Develop and manage grassroots efforts to build support for the expansion of ABCTE programs into new states, including coalition building with other organizations
  • Coordinate the creation, printing, and distribution of marketing materials
  • Develop public relations campaigns for all recruitment events (held throughout the country) to increase participation in events and enrollment in ABCTE programs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public communication or related discipline
  • 5+ years experience in public relations, strategic communications, journalism, marketing, or related field
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Experience in and knowledge of state level politics/legislation and/or K-12 education policy
  • On-the record media experience
