Doug Mesecar
Mr. Mesecar oversees the editorial, marketing and sales efforts for Scholastic’s suite of math products. He has oversight of Scholastic Education’s major math programs including FASTT Math@, the leading intervention program for math fluency, Do The Math@ by Marilyn Burns, a groundbreaking arithmetic intervention program, and additional differentiated math programs. Mr. Mesecar will also be instrumental in leading Scholastic’s long-term math strategy and new product development, and will report to Margery Mayer, President, Scholastic Education.
Mr. Mesecar joins Scholastic from the U.S. Department of Education, where he served as Assistant Deputy Secretary, Office of Innovation and Improvement. He had previously served in the Department as Acting Assistant Secretary, Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, and was previously deputy chief of staff at the Department. Dedicated to supporting innovations in education, Mr. Mesecar led the Department’s efforts to make strategic investments in promising educational practices. He oversaw the administration of over twenty-eight grant programs related to education improvement, school choice, teacher quality and technology. While leading the Department’s policy office, Mr. Mesecar also worked with the National Math Panel and managed the launch of the Doing What Works website.
Mr. Mesecar has had a life-long commitment to education. Mesecar was on the Professional Staff of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce as the panel wrote the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002. Prior to his work in Washington, Mesecar taught the fifth grade at Witt Elementary School in Jefferson County, CO.
