Barbara De Pesa is in her fifth year as an assistant principal of mathematics at Herbert Lehman High School where she has been a teacher of mathematics for the past 15 years. Ms. De Pesa’s supervisory duties include designing professional development for her 31 mathematics teachers; recruiting and selecting new staff; analyzing department data; and improving the school’s annual local and national rating.

Under her leadership, additional advanced placement courses have been successfully introduced to the school’s math students. The advanced placement program started in her department has had an above 95% success rate.

De Pesa serves as an executive board member of the Association of Mathematics Assistant Principals of Supervision (AMAPS) of NYC. This past year, she was an active member of the Empowerment Team in her network.

Ms. De Pesa earned a M.S. in Mathematics from Pace University, a B.A. in Education from Iona College, and a B.A. in Administration from the College of New Rochelle. Barbara is hoping to enter into a doctoral program in the near future.
